Did you face any unique challenges as a Korean-American woman who founded her own skincare company?
Being born into Korea, females were revered to be more subservient, to be more supportive, and not be in a leadership position that’s obnoxious or arrogant – it had a lot of negative connotations – and not to stir any disruptions. Status quo is very important for a female Korean woman. Stepping into a CEO position is the opposite of that.

What are important qualities to have as a CEO?
You have to have strong leadership and a focus on growth. Honoring people is always important too.
What does strong leadership mean to you?
Part of me is very nurturing, but I’ve also prided myself in being strong. So, it makes me question what is strength at this age? Compassion can be a strength. I think compassion is directly related to strong leadership.

What are your thoughts going forward?
There’s a fine line between showing strength and being humble. These opposite spectrums need to work together for us to be successful.
